For me it is Joker.

The effort this guy puts in every night.

Line 1 or 2 he goes out and does his stuff.

I'm going to vote for JBo. People have ragged on him for years now and seem to have mostly given up on him, but he's been by far our best defenseman this year (though would have been challenged by Gio if he was healthy).

Definitely JBo, by a huge margin.

Ya can't disagree. Jbo is quite underrated. He is crucial to this team, and has been a much better breakout quarterback this season thus far.

Hmm. This is a good question. After some long consideration I'll have to say Jokinen as well. I just can't believe he still catches flack from fans here. The guy has totally remodelled himself to be successful here and has done a great job. I hope we resign him. If it was possible I would vote for our entire fourth line to get a vote too.

Yeah, J-Bo and Jokinen.

Between the two, I'd pick J-Bo.

But, that's for the general fan population, which is usually about 1-2 years behind what's actually happening.

On these boards, I think people are more up to speed.

Here, I would have probably picked Horak or Irving.

I'm going to have to disagree. I can't see how either Horak or Irving are underrated. Horak has 9 whole points in 42 games. He's got tons of skill, and you can tell when you watch him play, but he's got to start actually producing before you can call him underrated.

And though Irving's played well so far, he's only got 4 games under his belt. We need to see more of him before anyone can (should) make up their minds on him.

I guess it depends if you are talking league wide or in Calgary, and if if you mean by the pros or by the fans.

By local fans, Butler is the most underrated and its not even close. He is treated like he is a borderline NHLer and he is playing some of the toughest minutes on our team.

By fans around the league, its Bouwmeester. They look at his points and salary and talk like he isn't a top pairing defensemen. But in Calgary he is getting the recognition he deserves (finally)

I can't speak for the pro (TV guys, players and league officials) so I will just leave that alone.

How about the guy who basically replaced Regehr for a quarter of the salary? Scott Hannan!

Honorable Mentions

Tim Jackman
Jay Bouw

Jbo Hands down, I really think that he is also starting to pick up his game offensively. Definitely one of the best shut down dmen in the league.

JBo is only underrated in Calgary. He's still highly respected in other hockey cities.

I'm fine with your opinion on this, because it also re-iterates my point. Irving and Horak are underrated on this forum. I believe you can be under-rated without being a core player.

And once again, speaking to the larger Calgary fan base, it's J-Bo and Jokinen (in that order, imho).

As for Chris Butler...maybe you have a point as many of us such as myself will always be biased for Regehr. But, the thing about Butler is that I don't really feel he's done a very good job with those minutes. Sooo....we'll see how he does now that Gio's back.

I would have to say Stempniak, this guy needs more ice time and the results will come. As for Jokinen or Bowmeester they are finally doing what was expected of them in the first place.

We just had this same discussion about JBo and Joker being over-rated, just a few of weeks ago. http://fans.flames.n...rrated-players/

Doesn't it seem odd to be bringing up the same two players and classifying them now on the opposite side of that scale?

TK

so smart without the puck and makes good quick decisions with it, underrated because of his production (which is not his role anyway).
