Will be interesting to see what style of coach we go after.

I hope they take their time, and bring the right guy in. I think this is just one big move of many.

There is a good chance they will make the playoffs next year with this core and keeping some young guys in the roster for a full year. Basically gonna get rid of deadweight on the 3rd and 4th lines. You won't see much change on the first two ( maybe adding a center if some team decides to give somebody up)
If he was looking to rebuild he would have kept Sutter as everybody knows he is a good coach for young guys.
Pretty obvious what is ahead for the Flames

What this implies is, (like Irvin said) big changes have begun.
But now they have to go out and get the right guy, or they haven't accomplished anything

I have a feeling next season is going to be very bad.
I think Sutter was one of the reasons we did as good as we did this year.

Firing Sutter means they will do very little with the core. Feaster said he didn't want to miss the playoffs next year and you don't make the playoffs by doing a rebuild. This is the easiest way to appease the fans for now and hopefully let feaster look like a genius if they do make it next year with basically the same team.

Exactly - this pretty much says that the same core will return next year.
I think it came down to either Iggy leaving or Brent leaving and seeing as Brent really doesn't need the job, it was a no-brainer.
I hope we get away from the 1-0 style games next season and play some more exciting hockey. Time will tell.

Disagree it was 34 who did.I'm scared.

Anyway, I'm not that surprised and I think it really was mutual. Brent may have said he was interested in coming back and the ball is the Flames' court but I didn't buy that. He's not gonna go down looking like a quitter, but you could see it on his face behind the bench. He didn't really enjoy his time here and I think he had just about enough.

Really? Wow.I'm scared.
I have a feeling next season is going to be very bad.
I think Sutter was one of the reasons we did as good as we did this year.
I saw a coach who never adjusted to the situation, juggled the lines in mind-boggling ways, mis-used players based on their skill-sets, had a horribly passive defensive system, helped cause - or at least didn't resolve - a feud with his best player, and maintained a very gloomy atmosphere.
So I guess we disagree on that

Does this mean management wants to give the core one more try under a different system?
Will be interesting to see what style of coach we go after.
If it ain't broke don't fix it right? The core will be a year older and even that much slower ... if I'm Kipper I'll stay in Finland and go into witness protection. A coach would need to be desperate or nuts (mind you there are quite a few that fit the bill) to come into this dysfunctional mess.

That is exactly what I want ot see as well.
So lets get a coach that preaches up-tempo, puck pursuit all over the ice, and puck possession.
Then, if the players can't get it done, we KNOW it's the players fault and then wholesale changes must happen.
So who is that?
thanks for that awesome post.If it ain't broke don't fix it right? The core will be a year older and even that much slower ... if I'm Kipper I'll stay in Finland and go into witness protection. And in other news: the government sucks, they're all crooks, and there is no hope for our childrens' future.

That said if we could pry Tort's out, or someone of equal caliber, then we are golden. That said there is no way in hell we manage that I am sure! LOL.
Well the haters got their wish, so OK smarty pants who do we replace him with and why that person?

Tony Granato or bust
I am a big fan of giving Granato another shot at head coaching in the NHL.
I wonder what the chances are of Lindy Ruff being available this offseason. If he was available he would jump to the top of my list.
