San Antonio Rampage (19-11-3-0) vs Adirondack Flames (21-14-1-1) @ 05:00 PM MST [Tues, Jan 06, 2015]

The home stand continues against the Florida Panthers affiliate.

The Rampage currently sit a mere 3 pts behind the Flames with 4 games in hand for 5th in the Western Conference.

As Michael Backlund is back in Calgary's lineup tomorrow, I am still wondering who will be coming to Glens Falls.

Let's keep winning Flames!

San Antonio Rampage 2 (19-12-3-0) vs Adirondack Flames 6 (22-14-1-1)

1. ADK AHL San Antonio Rampage 2 at Adirondack Flames 6 - Adirondack Flames TV [YouTube]

Another convincing victory over a fellow wild card contender in the Western Conference.

Knight (1-1), Hathaway (1-1), and Tousignant (0-2) the offensive standouts.

Ortio with another win. He may not have league-leading GAA & Sv% but he is sure getting the job done (#2 @ 17 Wins).

Sena Acolatse only an assist short of a Gordie Howe Hattie.

Next up is another home date with the Oklahoma City Barons (Edmonton Oilers) on Friday night.

A good shot of Dash the Dalmatian towards the end of the highlight video. Cuteness overload .

He (she?) pales in comparison to what might have been with Scorch if it wasn't for rampant political correctness.

Wow Ortio looked good in the highlight reel. The way he's been playing of late is very encouraging. I remember another goalie for the Flames who had notorious habit of slow starts but turned out to be a pretty decent goalie  ;)  Seriously though I hope he can keep it up and really make the goalie situation very complicated (in a good way) for the Flames come next season.

An unfortunate collison between Karri Ramo & Raphael Diaz in last night's game in Calgary resulted in an undisclosed injury to Ramo. As a result, Joni Ortio has been recalled to Calgary & Doug Carr will probably come to Glens Falls from the Colorado Eagles. I'm sure this will have minimal effect on the Adirondack Flames as Brad Thiessen has proven he is more than capable of stepping in and getting the job done.

I was looking at brads stats the 5 6 1 doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence in his play but looks like we don't have much to choose from looking at our goalie situation I'm not at all confident in our future when it comes to goal tending and the pick this yr was not exactly what I would call a great draft for a player that could have been had  in the third round. hope they can do better this draft

Thiessen has a 2.27 GAA and a .927 save percentage this year, those are very impressive numbers. The baby Flames should be in good hands with Thiessen in net.

There was no way that Mason McDonald was making it to the 3rd round. Ithink he has just as much upside as Ortio and Gillies. He is a very good goaltender on a very bad team. He has better stats than Zach Fucale who just won Canada a gold medal at the WJC.

Calgary is very deep with goaltending prospects, it might be the position I am least worried about going into the future.

How much of that was from the start of the season? We took a little bit to get going early on.

Good article about Wolf. Guy seems to be adjusting well to the game. Huska giving him extreme high praise. Wonder if we ever see the kid called up.

If we were going to take a goalie, I was glad we didn't go for Dem-co. I was never impressed with him when Johnny and Arnold played with him at BC. Yes they won a whole lotta games, but most of that was due to the #1 line. When the games were on the line at the end of the season, he managed to let in a ton. Two big losses to Notre Dame and losing to Union in the semis. Didn't want him then, don't want him now.

More to the point, we have goalie prospects at all ages of development:

Joni - expected to battle for a backup spot in 2015/16

Gillies - expected to start the AHL in 2015/16

MacDonald - could go pro by 2016/17

Oklahoma City Barons (23-8-2-2) vs Adirondack Flames (22-14-1-1) @ 05:00 PM MST [Fri, Jan 09, 2015]

Adirondack has a schedule that has us playing the top 2 teams in the Western Conference on consecutive nights.

Tonight's opponent, the Oklahoma City Barons (Oilers) top the conference while tomorrow's opponent, the Utica Comets (Canucks), are 2nd in the conference & 1st in the North Division.

A winning weekend by Adirondack will make a strong statement to these conference leaders that the Flames are for real & they will soon be ascending to their rightful place atop the Western Conference.

Despite Joni Ortio on a Calgary stint, having Brad Thiessen between the pipes & Doug Carr as backup leaves us in good hands.

The possibility of the Flames having their AHL team on the west coast is still happening based on news reports cropping up now & again.

Another report points toward western move - poststar.com
STOCKTON THUNDER - Sale of Thunder moving closer to completion - recordnet.com

I am hoping the people of Glens Falls get to enjoy the Flames for years to come, but if a move is inevitable in the near future, perhaps a Calder Cup at the end of this season will be somewhat of a consolation. Get it done Flames!

A match against our primary competition at the moment for the North Division crown.

Utica has weakened lately thus it could be time Adirondack finally defeats them on their 7th attempt this season.

As seen last time these teams met, their parent clubs in Vancouver & Calgary also meet again.

A dual victory against the Canucks and the Comets would be sweet.

Pyro, you mixed up the top line of this post. It should be against Utica.

It would be nice to break both slumps tonight; Baby Flames beating Utica (literally) and the Flames beating VAN. Would be sweet.

Boxscore         COMETS TV: Highlights 1-10-15 Utica Comets vs Adirondack Flames [YouTube]

Seven games & seven losses; the Comets certainly have the Flames number this season.

Jacob Markstrom is a big part of the reason why. Tonight he stopped 42/43 shots & was awarded 1st star.

Over the 5 games he played against Adirondack, Markstrom's GAA = 0.80 & Sv% = 0.974 (151/155).

The Flames must solve the Utica Comets enigma if they want to go to the Calder Cup Finals.

The Flames defense was the goat in the game. all 4 goals would not have happened if the defense played defense. Justin Schultz level of bad defending.

Flames recall Tyler Wotherspoon from Adirondack - flames.nhl.com

Adirondack loses a key defencemen but gains a gamebreaker with Drew Shore returning.

Looking forward to Shore continuing with his offensive prowess [30 pts - 9G & 21A] that he exhibited with the San Antonio Rampage.

No indications yet as to whether Joni Ortio will play the AHL All-Star game.

He is now 4-0 with Calgary and, although his NHL body of work is small, he currently leads the NHL in GAA & Sv%.

Berube, Bachman added to All-Star rosters - theahl.com

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Manchester Monarchs goaltender Jean-Francois Berube has been added to the Eastern Conference roster and Oklahoma City Barons goaltender Richard Bachman has been added to the Western Conference roster for the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino, set for this Sunday and Monday in Utica, N.Y.

In addition, the AHL announced that Adirondack goaltender Joni Ortio and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender Jeff Zatkoff will not be available for the event.

No Joni Ortio coming for the AHL All-Star game despite Calgary not playing again until Tuesday.

It looks like Calgary plans on carrying 3 goaltenders for a while longer.

After this mornings news, these AHL transactions were somewhat surprising.

It looks like lots of ammunition is coming for the back-to-back with the Amerks on the weekend.

Since the AHL found a replacement for the ASG, I imagine there will be no retraction of Ortio's unavailability.12103
