Insults/Name-calling will not be tolerated   11/19/2016

It's great to see the boys earning their way into the playoffs this season (barring a Colorado-would-be-proud collapse).  What a night-and-day difference from way back in November.   With the playoffs, we typically see more traffic/visitors on the site, usually from the opposing team's fanbase (especially from the Oilers).  This is just a reminder that stating your opinion is fine (it's exactly what these forums are for), and friendly, good-natured ribbing is OK, however, name-calling and insults will still be a major no-no and cause for the Banhammer to warm up.  This applies to all new guests and visitors as well: you're more than welcome to join the party, but civility is house rule around here.   All insults/name-calling will be met with a zero-tolerance approach, regardless if you are a new person to the forums, or have been around since these forums began.   First-offenses will be met with a moderator-needs-to-approve-your-post for 3 days Second offenses will be met with a week-long suspension Third offenses will result in a perma-ban   If you have any questions regarding this policy, or would like to voice your concern about it, you are absolutely free to contact me directly.   We all love this team, and this game.  Let's all hop on the Bandwagon, enjoy a few beverages, and ride this wave of excitement as far as we can.   --  Kulstad

Jarome Iginla traded to the Kings

I wasn't expecting that!

I'm wondering if the demand for Iggy wasn't very high. If LA was the best team he could go to, at the price of a conditional 4th, I'd be willing to bet not many NHL teams were willing to take on his contract.

Either way, Iginla might be in the playoff picture of LA is able to move up in the standings.

Not going to lie, for a conditional 4th, I was hoping the Flames would reacquire him.

50% salary discount.

Conditions not met and it becomes a free player.

Think we got more for Max Reinhart.

So glad the flames weren't involved. If you get past the name, Iginla as a player didn't fit here. I don't think I would play him above Ferland- Brouwer or Frolik in the top 9.

The fact that this is could wind up a free trade, and that Ignila had to go to LA (team out of the playoffs) when he outright said he wanted to win, tells me there was very little interest in Iginla.

Glad the Flames passed. Not a fit here at all.

So ironic, the flames are going to spoil Iggy's last chance at lord Stanley's cup...

I would have been open to him coming back but at this point Im just happy hes not a coiler...

Say what you want about Iginla, without him and Kipper, chances are the flames would be playing in a differnt barn today!

   ^^^

Both times LA won the SC they took the hard road there. I wouldn't discount their chances cross.

The Av's did the right thing by trading him to a better team as they continue to spiral downwards into hockey hell, but I wish that he had been able to go to a top contender...

I just meant not in the playoffs right now.

But that being said I don't like their chances at all. Current version of the kings is a far cry from what they were when they won the cup.

I am with Cross here.  I am just happy as hell he's not a Flame again.   When he retires we will put #12 on the rafters no doubt but unless it's a 1 day retire as a Flame contract I really don't want to see Iggy's signature on one.

Same here. A few years back I was cheering for LA after the Flyers, Flames & Jets were gone due to all the ex-Flyers & Sutter. All that's left is Sutter & Carter.

Lombardi's treatment of M Richards POed me to the extent that even adding Iggy for a pity SC. The only way I'll be rooting for them is if they face the Pengies for the Cup as the lesser of 2 evils.

******************************************************************************************

BTW SKscout there aren't any posts in this thread saying we should have traded for Iggy.

It was a bush league move and quite hypocritical of Lombardi as well...

I did a quick run the the Oiler MB a few days ago & many were advocating trading for him just to PO us.

Methinks fans of the northernmost team in the league is getting a bit big for their britches ever since they got a star with their 1st OA pick after the previous 1s just weren't superstar material.

Glad to see you're with me re: Lombardi.

I don't mind Iginla back in Calgary.  As a PP specialist, it could work.  He still has a great shot.

I think we would have had more trouble facing King than Iggy.

Other than Bishop, it seems like the Kings downgraded.

I believe that he was acquitted of the initial charges wasn't he?

Yes, the Canadian government dropped the charges against Carter...   My calling Lombardi hypocritical was directed at his enthusiastic condemnation of Carter, while he was vigorously defending Slava Voynov for being charged with felony wife abuse after a severe beating...   Once the league suspended Voynov for the remaining 76 games of the season and Lombardi was facing pressure from the public, he changed his tune...   Voynov went back to Russia...

Seeing as Gaborik is already wearing #12, Iggy is going to switch to #88...

He looks pretty happy about escaping Colorado too...

Yes like Washington or Pittsburgh in the east and Shark or Anaheim in the west.

While I agree in theory i think the reality is those top contenders likely didn't want him. I'm not sure Iginla is a top 9 forward on a team like Penguins, Sharks or Ducks. LA is one of the few teams in the league I think he made sense to go to.

I want him back for 1 game only so he can retire as a Flame. We'd have to be very specific it was a 1 day contract or the fact he's 35+ could have us carrying him against the cap for the year or whatever term signed for.

Since the Chris Pronger debacle I'm wary of that 35+.

The more I think about this, the more I think Sakic went to Iggy and asked him where he wanted to go.  I’d bet LA was his only choice.  Sakic picks up the phone and calls LA.  It makes sense, Iggy will have contributed IF they make the playoffs and to win it all with Darryl Sutter would also be a career ending fulfillment.

The Kings might have "Darth Vader" Iginla, but the Flames have "Darth Maul" Tkachuk...
