Looks like they tried out a few different combos yesterday at practice...   We will have to wait and see what they go with for tonight...

Crickets.....

Blackwood can't catch a puck.

Drops the puck a lot.

Go to the net and the puck will be there.

Exploit Suban, he will wheel a lot.

I was excited when Geoff Ward was hired, because I thought he would run a good PP, but after finishing 18th last year and sitting at 21st this year, I am not sure he is the right guy for the job.

They do an absolute terrible job at opening up the slot, and really slow at moving the puck around the zone. It needs to be addressed soon.

I’ve been thinking the same thing for some time, and extend that same thinking to Huska because I hate our D zone coverage. Personally, I think the systems are limiting the talent of the players we have. I wouldn’t be shocked to see these same players have better seasons in another jersey.

I question the logic of the setup as well.

Gio's really good but is too predictable.

JH on the left boards.

Very little movement in the middle of the ice.

Watched the Oilers game where they showed how the Blues ran it.

Much better.

I would start by taking Gio off the top unit.

Go with Ras and Hanifin on the points, with Ras moving up the right side.

Take Monahan off.

Top Unit

Tkachuk-Lindholm-JH

Hanifin-Ras

#2

Mangiapane-Monahan-Bennett

Gio-Ryan

Or something like that.

I think it might address some of the passing issues.

For me it isn't so much the personnel on the PP, it's the puck movement and the setup.

Too often the puck goes from Gio to Gaudreau and back, and then a shot from outside. I think there needs to be more rotation, I think Tkachuk needs to open up for more passes at the side of the net, the high-low movement will open up the slot more.

They also spend a lot of time rimming the puck around the outside trying to get set up.

The 2nd PP unit has been the better unit the last few games IMO, they aren't so stagnant and get more pucks to the net.

Not bad TD. It would be good to find some different combinations that may mess with our opponents ability to defend against us.

Lucic has had a few chances in tight. Gotta elevate that puck.

I think Peters needs to start the 2nd unit more often. I’ve liked the 2nd unit quite a bit and they have way more urgency than the top unit.

That's why I was suggesting the change.

Get away from the stale players.

Split up the skill a bit.

First unit is really an adjustment of Gaudreau to the RW and Ras on his strong side.

Used to get a lot of goals from that setup with Wideman and JH.

More options on the top unit.

The 2nd unit is strong too.

Jankowski can't let Hughes get passed him there that easily, has to slow him up some how.
