2008/2009 Prospect Statistic/Discussion Thread

Glad to see Chucko, Wilson, Greentree, and Cracknell all doing very well in Quad Cities. Nemisz, Wahl, and Negrin look to add on to their top seasons, looks like they are due to have career years. I'm really suprised at Aulie's stats, he is already having a career year and has gone past his point totals last year!

Great job cross! That sure is a time-saver. Just one tiny thing (no biggie) - you have TJ Brodie listed as a LW, he is a D.

We have some youngsters having great seasons!

except, the elite prospects website isn't very good for Backlund.

Better to check Backlund's statistics on his team home page, translated from google.com, right here.

Gives you a better idea of where he sits in the team structure too.

edit: then, click on "points league"

second edit:

I'm concerned as he has played 7 less games than the rest of his team.. I don't think he's played in a while, but I don't have the site quite figured out yet.

may as well use this to point out this streak of Kyle Greentree's

No need to be. Vasteras season started before he got back from training camp, and he also has been away on international duty. So he's been playing when he's been eligible.

Where has Dan Ryder gone?

He's been sent down to the ECHL. http://www.oursportscentral.com/sports/?l_id=18' target="_blank">Link.[/post] Its about halfway down the page on this link.

He's been struggling, which is normal for someone having not played hockey in a year. He was starting to get hot as of late, but I would suspect there is an issue with confidence as well.

TJ Brodie named OHL defenceman of the month for November. Looking like a real good 4th round pick so far!

I've yet to figure out why Brodie fell to the 4th round. I know he was injured down the stretch/into the playoffs, but I just watched training camp and you could already see the upside in the kid. He isn't going to be an elite dman, but he is looking like an outstanding 4-6 dman/PP specialist. Great snag in the 4th round.

Aulie makes Team Canada

Keith Aulie has been selected to play for Team Canada at the upcoming World Juniors.

By my count thats 3 Flames prospects invovled.

Mikael Backlund - Sweden

Mitch Wahl - USA

Keith Aulie - Canada

Not bad at all. Especialy when you consdier that Negrin, Nemisz were on team Canada's radar, and TJ Brodie is likely not far off.

Wow, I'm actually rather surprised Aulie made the cut, considering some of the names that were on defense at training camp...

Way to go Keith!

Backlund has 4g 3a in 7 games this year with Team Sweden U20, so he's still a .ppg player in international competition.

Don't know why he can't get it done in V

Just wanted to highlight the turnaround and great start Leland Irving is having to his pro career. He was shaky early, but has now has better numbers than Keetley and his save % I believe ranks him in the top 15. He has been great since his shaky start.

Good way to write off all those haters that were starting to call him a bust.

Flames prospect Ryley Grantham has been traded to the Kelowna Rockets. Link

So it looks like two Flames prospects will be playing for Kelowna.

ANOTHER EDIT:

John Negrin traded to Swift Current from Kootenay.

In action today against the Hitmen and on Sportsnet West. But Negrin will finish the season, and likely his junior career with the Swift Current Broncos. I've amended his team stats on the page.

Also Backlund has been officially assigned to Kelowna of the WHL.

I'll leave his Swedish stats there, but will be adding him to the Major Junior player list once he completes his first game.

Backlund, Aulie, Negrin, Nemisz, Wahl, and Irving all seem pretty promising! I guess our future isn't as bad as I thought it was.

Let's hope they all keep developing!

Edit:

Added Backlund to the Major Junior list. It looks like he will make his WHL debut tommorow, Wednesday, night against Tri City.

Backlund registers an assist in his WHL debut... he's playing on a line with Jamie Benn.

Quad Cities continue to be second last in the conference... and got shutout last night... I'm not quite sure what their problem is... but it's pretty hard to grow prospects on a losing team like that... I hope the franchise ships to another city for a fresh start next year.

Two things. 1 - Mcgill is a strict defensive oreinted coach. and 2- the team doens't have much in the way of offensive players. When they were one of the better teams in the A, they were able to generate a fair amount of offence with Taratukhin and Boyd which also made alot of players around them better. David Moss also produced well for them. Now they lack guys with offensive skills, and combine that with playing a defensive style system it doesn't amount to alot of goals and thus why they keep alot of games close, but end up losing most of them.

I don't think it has anything to do with the city. They just need more of their offensive style players to develop into the Q.

And Backlund, by all accounts, was very good in his debut. Controlled alot of the play and even got invovled physically.

For those who missed it, the Kelowna Rockets played the Giants on Shaw TV tonight. I bet most did as the Flames game was on at the same time. I caught most of it.

Backlund with 3 pionts, 1 goals (first WHL goal) and 2 assists and a cataslyt. You can really see that being in the WHL has helped him with his confidence. He is carrying the puck with the same confidence and ability he did at the World Juniors. Is so good at protecting the puck, but also getting it off his stick.

could questionable defensive plays, but overal, he looked quite good.

Bouma I dind't see much of. Thats been the case for the last 3 Giants games I've watched. Begining to wonder about him.

Grantham left the game with a cut. From what I saw, he just throws his weight around, but he can play at that level.

Shouldn't Backlund be listed in the WHL, now that he plays for the Rockets?

http://whl.ca/stats/player.php?id=25416' target="_blank">Mikael Backlund - Kelowna Rockets[/post]

He has notched 4 games now. Last night the Rockets lost a 6-4 game to the Giants where Backlund had 3 points (1g, 2a) which puts him at a point per game. Of course, 4 points in 4 games doesn't really say anything other than he is off to a pretty good start. I'd be interested to hear more specifics from anyone who follows the team about how he progresses.

I posed above about my take on the game he played last night.

I listened to the first game he played, and watche last night and have been following fairly closly. I am a Rockets fans so this has been a win win for me.

From what i've gathered, he was very strong in his first game, a little uncomfortable and out of place in the next two, but really clicked with his linemates last night. Ian Duvall, former Hitmen, and someone else whose name escapes me was on his line and they look very good. Backlund was quite the offensive catalyst.

Greg Nemisz was just on Sportsnet West as the Windsor Spitfires took on the Sudbury Wolves.

Nemisz looked pretty good and would up with a goal and an assist. Very good down low and in the offensive zone. Tough to move off the puck, but could protect it a little better. His skating needs work before he hits the next level.

Perhaps the best thing though, is that he doesn't play with Taylor Hall. If you look at the Spitfires stats, Nemisz is right up there and hasn't been doing it leeching on a great talent in Hall. I was somewhat worried about that, but it looks like Nemisz generates alot of his own offence.
