Discussion & Debate Thread: Flames and Canucks

At the end of the day tho... It's about wins.. and they do deserve full credit for coming thru and snatching wins and scooping points the way they have...

I don't understand this dig. they have 3 more wins, and 4 less OT loss points than you, your team had been the one scooping up stray points (compared to them.)

nice to see a pitched battle for first though, that includes in the East as well, and the Prez trophy up for grabs.

You don't understand the dig because it wasn't one. "they" = canucks.

Very little. I was thinking a depth forward and/or defenceman for a pick or picks. However with the price depth guys like Grossman (2nd and 3rd) and Moore (2nd) got, I wouldn;t be surprised if nothing happened. And I could live with that.

No Nash/Carter/Ryan/Kubina/Weber/Ruutu

See, if you an NHL GM, then your response would interpreted in the following way:

- Does not list Suter; obviously going to acquire him.

- Does not explicitly say Luongo won't be traded for Lecavalier; obviously Tampa needs a goalie, etc.

Need I continue? :)

agree with Don...

Altho.. i do think our 2nd is definitely in play for a significant Dman..

Chi may push us out of the Kubina pickup... but someone like him would be a perfect pick up.

I don't see anything in the forwards happening at all.

it's all about another Dman.

Ballard news may of added a little urgency on the matter.. was just moved to the IR and Tanev called up.

Gillis is all about D depth... we need one more quality option. Kubina is intriguing, but will have huge demand = huge price.

We'll see what else comes up.

If there is a significant pickup, they'll put Ballard on LTIR for the duration of the season to make room for it...

So cap isn't a concern at this point...

Nah...we will just wait for Suter or Weber to hit the open market. Even if Lu is traded, it won't be for a guy like Vinny...his cap hit and term are way too long. We need that $ for all of our young stars.

Ballard on LTIR...that should make for a interesting deadline :)

I agree with what Don said, I'm just denoting the humourous way in which people always interpret GMs' comments.

Id love to see Vancouver pick up Bryan Allen from Carolina... Not sure if just the 2nd round pick would be enough for him, but he could slide into a top 4 if an injury occurred or as a 5th D-man if nothing else happens to our blue-line.

The prices we've seen in the few deals so far makes me think nothing is a possibility. I'm sure GMMG is asking around for depth players, but if a pylon like Hal Gill is getting a 2nd, Geoffrion and another player I could see he doing nothing. What's Kubina going to go for? 1st rounder + more?

I gotta agree with DL. They'll try to add on defense. That's easier said then done though. The Grossman & Gill trades show it's a seller's market. Although the Canucks have the assets to do it.

Other then that just a tweak IMO. Maybe a cheap depth rental @ forward.

Aw yeah... Allen would be nice.

We have Steven Reinprecht joining the team for the playoffs to add to the forward depth..

Not much more forward depth is required i would think...

All about the D right now.

Edler, Bieksa, Salo, Hamhuis - Ballard, Alberts, Rome - Sultzer, Tanev

I would like to slip in an NHL vet into that 2nd group there.

Forwards that will be available to the Canucks (barring injuries)...

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows

Raymond - Kesler - Booth

Higgens - Hodgson - Hansen

Weise - Malhotra - Lapierre

Bitz - Reinprecht - Duco

Oreskovich - Ebbett - Sweatt

Schroeder

Top 6 replacement would come from the 3rd line..

The Canucks as you can see have a buffet of bottom 6ers they can work in just in case.

I wonder if MG could get Ballard off the books come the deadline and then go after both Allen & Kubina! Ahhh...one could only dream B)

Let me throw out a name and see if it sticks...Brad Boyes. I know he is colder than cold this season but he is a natural RW and I wonder if the Sedins,Kesler or CoHo could help him find his touch around the net again.

He would prob. come real cheap too.

EDIT: I just looked up his cap hit...4 mill. Forget about it!

Do you think they could get PA Parenteau off the island?

But I don't think he will come cheap.

Most likely no.... Parenteau is young and following up his 20 goal ( first full season) with a 60-70 point year. The Islanders have no reason to want to trade him.

One thing the Flames and Canucks have in common... their respective #1 goaltenders are their MVPs so far this season.

Luongo, since the team's poor October:

22-7-5, 2.06 GAA, 0.931

Been playing Vezina-like since..

(Oct #'s: 3-3-1, 3.54 GAA, 0.869.. amazing 7 gms can effect the numbers so much)

Wow show boating enough Burrows? (DET shootout winner)

Wow show boating enough Burrows? (DET shootout winner)

Luongo's celebration was the queerest thing I've seen in hockey this year.

Burrows was boring compared to whatever the hell Luongo did... It was hilarious.

I'm loving how together this group is as a team. Never seen such a level of celebration for a regular season win.

I mean this is a team that has stopped running the train for each goal and had implemented a business approach to the game... But the emotion to this game was incredibly ramped up coming in... the team was actually cheering for the Wings to win their games so they had the opportunity to break the streak...

And then you see it all release with Burrows' goal...

Like a junior team that just won gold... well not quite.. but you'll be hard pressed to see any other reg season win celebrated like that outside of some playoff clinching win...

Did you see 31 yr old vet Malhotra jumping up and down on the bench like a schoolgirl watching a Justin Bieber concert?

I understand how anyone else looks at it like 'jeez, it was just a reg season game won in shootout vs a team without their best player..'

For me it was an awesome display of how much they care about just winning, and how together they are as a team...

I wish could find the sportsnet feed of Luongo, Manny/Lapierre on the bench and then the on ice scrum afterwards which was like a mini mosh pit with facewashes. Just a bunch of kids having a blast.

Unfortunately I think the impression to non-Canuck fans is a team show-boating.

Both Luo and Burrows. Vancouver has its fans and a good team but they will never have the class the Red Wings have or the respect the Red Wings have from all hockey fans.

If the Canucks can not this year or in coming years win the Cup while they are in their window, it may just be that attitude that you seem to applaud DL44.

Quiet confidence is always superior to show boating arrogance.

One off after their most significant win of the season.

Canucks have been anything but a show boating team this yr.. barely celebrate goals.

[Who says Canadian team don't draw in the States?

First Van-Bos is the highest rated reg season in Bos history.... And now the Van-Det is the highest rated Wings game in Det in about 8 years...
