I know it’s easy to get down on your team but that was a hell of a game the Canucks played. Give them a ton of credit as they were very good with no real let down all night.

I don’t think Calgary’s effort was poor, they just did not respond well or adjust. Canucks knew exactly what they wanted to do and their was no plan B.

coaching staff has some work to do

It’s true, but at least make it hard. I don’t like passive hockey. If you’re losing fine, but finish your checks, forecheck hard and at least clear the zone with some authority.

ya I’m not sure if it was a conscious decision to play more of a passive game plan or just a result of the pressure but I don’t like it either.

it’d hard to do to those things when you don’t get clean entires though and basically ever exit was being contested by the Canucks.

Complete garbage effort, worst game of the year so far.  Markstrom is a beast, the passing looked like AHL league, no effort, no control, no shot attempts when they had a few chances, just horrible.  This team better wake up or its lottery time.

Strange coaching decision to use Mackey and Valimaki as a pair.

Must have missed the memo that you change the lineup after a 3 game winning streak.

They weren't that bad, but it's too much to switch sides and then bring in a rookie.

I can't remeber a game where they looked so completely lost in their own zone.

How may tries does it take to get the puck out?

Have control - put it back to the middle.

Have it behind the net, put it along the boards.

I must have missed why we played Frosese with the net empty.

Gaudreau such a liability you had to play Froese and Leivo?

Okay.

Obviously Backlund is so critical to the lineup that they have no options when he's out.

The one goal seemed to be the regular 2nd line grouping, so I don't know how they managed to screw up everything else.

Wow! Ward seems pretty disgusted with the teams effort...and well he should be but the million dollar questions are:

1. why it keeps happening.

and

2. what can be done to fix it permanently?

Yup he was so disgusted with the effort, that he realized it “10 mins into the game” he said, that he made absolutely zero changes to lines, matchups or ice time until Backs injury forced him too.

When exactly did we get that first shot, near the end of the period?

10 minutes in, he has tools to change the game flow.

Worse case, change the goalie to get a brief time out.

Change again, after another 2 minutes.

Other option, take a timeout.

Still another option, shorten bench until you can figure out some things.

Still another, make decisions based on who is struggling.

The questions about the coaching staff are starting to mount up.

The team was flat and passive, so I'm not sure how much of it is on the coach.

Just seems we fall into this pattern very often.

The shift from Hell:

I thought their line looked good until that shift. I mentioned how good they looked and then once I said anything, they shut the bed. Am I not allowed to say anything good? It tends to backfire.

It's not you.

As soon as we play a good game, we change things.

Whether that be the coach with the lineup or the players.

I can't even explain how the first period happened.

I've hear of passive, AKA rope-a-dope.

But that was some kind of bad.

It's like they had no idea of how to play hockey.

Like they were hung over.

I'm not even sure now if they played well at any point.

A couple of chances that normally would be goals.

Not like Demko was a stud.

I still don't know what I saw.

Bennett shot the puck and it went in.

How does that happen?  🙂

I mean the Hughes goal was nice and a result of a bad giveaway, but that's one sequence in a game.

Completely inept at leaving the zone.

The shift above was an example that I can compare to at least another 5 exactly as bad.
